Spook Show Font Design
Challenge: For over 20 years I have been editing, modifying, and designing fonts for client project behind the scenes whenever needed. From fixing unappealing letterforms to updating kerning, to nearly redrawing entire glyph sets, I applied my love of type to the smallest details in many of the projects I produced. Often when developing a design concept I would discover that certain fonts were not available anywhere. What could be done to change this?
Outcome: During the huge work slowdown of the pandemic, I pivoted from designing for clients to creating typefaces and setting up a small independent type foundry.
One of the first fonts that I could never find available in digital form was a wiggly sans serif used on vintage midnight spook show posters from the 1950s through 1970s.
