Website/App Design and Development
For over 15 years I have worked in the digital space designing and developing websites for organizations ranging for Fortune 100 companies to regional non-profits. Below is a selections of some of the best work created for these them.
Skills: Branding, Marketing, Illustration, Visual Design, UI/UX Design, Online Animation, Front-End Development, Product Design, Content Creation, Copywriting, Art Direction, Video Editing
Camp Flix - Branding, Website Design & Development, HTML Email Marketing, Social Media, Animation, Copywriting
Camp Flix is the premiere film-making summer camp in the Southeast for kids 11-17 years old. As part of the Camp Flix marketing team my role spanned from print to digital design, including branding, website design and development, UX Design, HTML emails, and animated visuals for social media and special online events. I even volunteer as a camp instructor teaching campers about movie marketing and helping them with poster designs for the films they create.
Cartoon Network PR Websites - Design & Development
Designed and developed as a template system for the introduction of new programing to media sources and influences. The single, responsive, long-scroll page contains interactive elements for downloading video clips, still images, and talent bios for media to use in writing about the programming. This was Cartoon Network's first modern HTML5/CSS3 responsive website created for specifically for PR. All other sites prior to this were created for individual shows in the outdated platform called Flash due to unique situations regarding hosting on their PR server. I also designed and developed the earlier Flash sites. As part of the creative team, we were able to convince hesitant senior-level decision makers of the benefits and security of updating from Flash to a modern website design platform.
Adult Swim Events & Promotions
Website Design & Development, Digital Design for DVDs & Streaming
Working as an approved contractor with Adult Swim's in-hose creative team allowed me to create some amazingly imaginative and irreverent design in both tradition physical and digital media. Projects ranged form event website, to HTML email marketing campaigns, to award-winning physical DVD packaging and digital design for on-screen navigation.
Adult Swim Games: The Hunting Grounds
Within six weeks I went from project launch, to HTML prototype, to final CMS template for Adult Swim Games "The Hunting Ground".
Quality Care For Children Websites - Design & Development
While working with the GA non-profit Quality Care for Children, I designed and developed multiple websites for children’s early education initiatives in Georgia. The website designs for QCC's ALL-GA-KIDS initiatives were the first database driven sites in GA to connect parents with approved quality certified childcare, early education, and summer camps based on specific needs. It positively changed the way parents and providers connect with childcare, and has been a model for other states.
As part of a program to reduce paper waste and costs, annual reports were changed from print to an online format with interactive elements and a downloadable, printer-friendly PDF.
Dragon Con Alternate History Track
Email Marketing and App Design
For Dragon Con's Alternate History Track at Dragon Con I designed marketing materials, a Wordpress website, and an app in a steampunk style. It was an effective, low-budget solution for solving communication problems and making last minute schedule changes for the event. I've also designed similar apps and communication platforms for the Adult Swim booth at San Diego International Comic Con.
Fun Stuff: Online Promotions, Products, and Games
One thing that many people say about my work is that it is "fun". I feel fun makes design more human and accessible. Plus, there is research that shows fun makes marketing and experiences more memorable and ranked higher in emotional connections. And believe it or not, there is actually something called the "fun theory" that's been developed based on various research projects studying interactive play.
Below are a few smaller projects I have worked on that use the ideas of fun and play to engage audiences and create positive experiences with products and brands.
Jurassic Arts
Jurassic Arts is evolved out of my hobby business and needing to test various  drop-and-drag e-commerce web editors for freelance clients.
It is a store specializing in limited-edition, resin dinosaur model kits for dinosaur enthusiasts and collectors.
How to Train Your Dragon Franchise
An older interactive site that was part of a show launch for Cartoon Network. The skeuomorphism design style is just so much fun, and highlights the dragon training guide that is a key element in the show. Play the short video to see the site in action.
Along with the website, I designed a shipping box as an oversized book that is features heavily in the show. It contained a trailer on DVD and a large toy dragon that is one of the main characters in the program.
Cartoon Network's "Summer Camp Island" Animated, interactive HTML Email
Some of the more unusual and surprisingly complex projects I've worked on are custom HTML, animated, interactive emails. This is a cute little one done for Cartoon Network.
